Business support & development

For the person behind the business — and the business they’re trying to build.

Building a business is rarely just about business.

There’s the business itself:

the idea, customers, offer, pricing, money, marketing, sales, systems and day-to-day delivery.

And then there’s you.

Your confidence. Decisions. Priorities. Habits. Capacity. Relationships. Values. Fears. Ambitions — and the life you’re trying to build alongside it.

My role is to give you somewhere to think.

Sometimes that means coaching and asking useful questions.

Sometimes it means looking practically at the business, solving a problem, bringing some structure or sharing relevant experience.

The aim isn’t to build my version of your business.

It’s to help you build yours — with greater clarity, confidence and capability along the way.

Presence · Understanding · Progress

How I work

Coaching + practical business development.

Some things need a good question.

Some things need a spreadsheet.

Sometimes we need to step back and understand what’s really happening.

Sometimes we need to make a decision.

Sometimes there’s simply a practical problem that needs working through.

My approach is primarily coaching-led and person-directed.

I’ll listen, ask questions, challenge assumptions, reflect what I notice and help you think.

Where useful, I may also draw on my own business experience, introduce a framework, help you structure something, share information or resources, troubleshoot a problem or point you towards specialist support.

I’ll try to be clear about which hat I’m wearing.

Coaching — helping you think and find your own answers

Mentoring — sharing relevant experience or perspective

Development — helping you build knowledge, capability or skills

Practical support — helping you work through something concrete

The 90-Day Business Map

For longer work, we can create a simple working map covering:

Where are you now?
Where are you heading?
What matters most?
What needs attention next?
What are you going to do?
What are you learning as you go?

It isn’t a rigid business plan.

It’s a living picture of the business that we can return to, update and challenge as things change.

  • exploring an idea and trying to work out whether or how to start

  • in the early stages and need clearer foundations

  • already trading but feeling pulled in too many directions

  • unsure what to prioritise next

  • struggling to turn ideas into consistent action

  • wanting accountability without somebody taking over your business

  • trying to understand your customers, offer, pricing or positioning

  • working through money, cashflow, capacity or sustainability

  • trying to improve systems, delivery or customer experience

  • beginning to employ, manage or lead people

  • navigating growth, change or a difficult business period

  • doing reasonably well, but wanting somewhere to step back and think more strategically

You don’t need to arrive with a perfect business plan.

Working out what actually needs attention is often the first useful piece of work.

What might be going on?

What we might work on

Practicals

1. Have a conversation

A complimentary conversation to hear about you, the business and what you’re trying to work out.

2. Choose the right starting point

A Focus Session, Partnership, Deep Dive, ongoing support or something more bespoke.

3. Complete your Starting Point Questionnaire

A short questionnaire helps us get a clearer picture of you, the business and what would make the work worthwhile.

4. Agree how we’ll work

Scope, confidentiality, sessions, communication, fees, cancellations and boundaries are made clear.

5. Begin

We start with what is actually happening — and work from there.

You don’t need to have your business figured out before we speak. That’s rather the point.

Ways we can work together

Business Focus Session

90 minutes · £240

For one particular question, challenge, decision, idea or reset.

Perhaps you’re working through pricing, an offer, cashflow, a customer problem, a launch, priorities or simply wondering what on earth to focus on next.

Includes brief preparation and, where useful, a concise follow-up or action summary.

BOOK A BUSINESS FOCUS SESSION →

Business Deep Dive

Approx. 2.5 hours · £425

For a bigger question that needs more space than a standard session.

Useful for things like:

business review · pricing · offers · positioning · cashflow · customer experience · difficult decisions · priorities · troubleshooting · planning

We begin with brief preparation so we can use the session well.

During the session we map what is happening, identify the important questions, work through options and turn the thinking into clear next steps.

BOOK A BUSINESS DEEP DIVE →

Half-Day Business Deep Dive

Approx. 3.5 hours · £595

For when several things are connected and you need enough time to properly get underneath them.

This might suit:

a wider business review · reviewing the business model · money and sustainability · customer journey · planning a new direction · untangling several problems at once

A typical half-day may include:

preparation · business review · coaching · practical problem-solving · decisions · priorities · a simple 90-day working map · concise follow-up

BOOK A HALF-DAY DEEP DIVE →

Full-Day Business Deep Dive

Approx. 5–6 hours · £950

For a substantial review, reset or piece of strategic thinking.

This gives us room to step away from the day-to-day and look at the business as a whole.

We might explore:

you · direction · customers · offer · money · marketing · delivery · systems · people · priorities

The day is shaped around the business rather than following a generic workshop agenda.

From me

Presence · Curiosity · Honesty · Practical thinking · Relevant experience · Compassionate challenge · Clear boundaries · Accountability without judgement

I won’t pretend to know everything about your industry.

And I won’t pretend there is one correct way to build a business.

I will bring attention, questions, experience, structure and practical thinking to the business you are trying to create.

From you

Bring what’s actually happening.

That includes the bits that are working, the bits that aren’t, the things you’ve avoided and the numbers you’d rather not look at.

You remain responsible for your decisions and actions.

I can help you think, challenge, plan, learn and troubleshoot.

I don’t take over the business.

What you can expect

Depending on the way we agree to work, there may be reasonable contact between sessions for brief reflections, questions, check-ins or accountability.

If something needs more substantial coaching or exploration, we’ll normally bring it into a session or agree some additional time.

Between sessions

Dan's background

I grew up in a family run business, and started in business very young (teens) and have spent much of my working life around entrepreneurship, customers, teams and small businesses.

I’ve owned and operated businesses across hospitality, retail and barbering, managed teams of 20+, worked across recruitment, training, marketing, finance, operations and customer experience, and helped establish an in-store barbershop partnership within John Lewis & Partners’ Southampton flagship.

I later retrained professionally in coaching, facilitation and people development.

Today those worlds meet in my work:

Getting started

Online · Phone · In person

Business support can be used as a one-off session, defined partnership, ongoing monthly arrangement or longer Deep Dive.

Between-session contact is available where included in the agreed service and is intended for brief questions, reflections and accountability rather than unlimited consultancy.

Significant travel, venue costs or other direct expenses are agreed before they are incurred.

Supported-rate capacity may be available for some sole traders and small-business owners where cost is the main barrier.

FEES & FAQs →

Non-executive lines & boundaries

Business support can move between coaching, mentoring and practical development, but it isn’t the same as hiring me to run part of your company for you.

Relevant tools, frameworks and existing resources may be included.

Substantial research, writing, document creation, consultancy or done-for-you work is agreed separately before it happens.

Where specialist advice is required — for example legal, accounting, tax or regulated financial advice — I’ll encourage you to use an appropriately qualified professional.
